I've had a call from Richard Lewis with the sad news that his father John Lewis has died after a short illness. He was 90.
John was a regular player in the 3rd and 4th XIs when I joined the club in 1986. He was an accurate seam bowler and also had a very safe pair of hands. My best memory of him was from a game at Mountnessing around 1991. A Hutton XI had been invited to play the newly reformed Mountnessing CC at their relaid ground. The ceremonial first ball was bowled by Neil Foster of Essex and England.
John marked the day by taking a hat-trick!
John retired from cricket and became a keen lawn bowler. He has a regular visitor to the Polo Field and met up with old friends at our annual dinner. The attached photo is from the 2019 President's Day.
John's funeral will be at Christ Church, Warley on Friday 24th March. All are welcome.
