Billericay v Hutton Cricket Club 5th Xl on Sat 11 Jun 2011 at 13.00
Hutton Cricket Club Won by 143 runs

Match report This time last year if Hutton 5th XI returned to the club on a saturday evening saying that they had scored 296-2 declared the other players would've written this off as some sort of optimistic attempt at a joke. However, not so this year. An uncharacteristic start to the season has turned Hutton 5s into a force to be reckoned with. This is mostly due to some expeienced players dropping down from the 4th team and some new talent unearthed this year. And these two groups have gelled together perfectly in the early season, especially in the batting department.

A perfect example of this was on an unnervingly dry day in only the second game that the 5s have played at their new ground, Woodlands school. Captain Gerald Anderson lost the toss and was forced to bat first on a slow wicket; however, openers Jim Lynch and Ian Harris put on a solid opening partnership of 64 to see off the new ball, until former 4s captain Lynch was bowled by a massively in-swinging delivery for a watchful 13. However the real highlight of the match then took place; a mammoth partnership for the second wicket, compiled by Ian Harris (134) and the in-form Jack Groves (103*). After what seemed like days, the partnership was over, after a colossal 212 runs put on between the pair, Ian Harris was out, caught at cover, while looking to add to his tally of 3 sixes. This brought a cameo role of 1* from Luis Cotton who sucessfully saw Jack to his maiden hundred. Jack has scored fifty in his last 3 innings and is becoming an increasingly pivotal player in the new-look 5th XI.

Hutton continued their momentum from their batting with a great start to their bowling effort, Billericay stumbling to 6-3 from their first 4 overs, with 1 wicket each from Paul 'Zimmer' Frame and Dave Franklin, but the highlight being a direct hit runout from Aaron Read. Small pockets of resistance formed throughout but, Hutton were always on top. Wickets also came for Lomi Saayman, Kish Punwani ( assisted by a great catch from Captain Anderson!),Ian 'Tufnell' Groves, taking 2 wickets through vicious turn and a runout from batting hero Jack Groves. David Franklin then returned to blow away the tail, taking the final wicket with an emphatic caught and bowled, meaning hutton won by a convincing 143 runs.
