Match report Losing the toss and being put in to bat, our openers Maddy A and Sophie W started brightly with 32 runs on the board inside 4 overs. Sadly, a mis-judged single saw Sophie run out with the first ball of the 5th over and a promising partnership was broken. Bethan J however, continued where Sophie left off and the girls put on a wonderful partnership of 98 before Bethan was bowled at the start of the final over. With just 5 balls left, Abi B was off the mark straight away and contributed 7 runs for the 3 balls she faced. The girls finished on 138 with Maddy A scoring her first 50 for Hutton and finishing on 57 not out.
In reply, Thriplow started equally positively, scoring the same number of runs after two overs and the game was shaping up to be a fine contest. However, Maddy struck in the 3rd over, the first of her two wickets, closely followed by wickets from Beth and Abi. But while May B was at the crease, Thriplow was still in the game and after 7 overs, despite losing 4 wickets, the hosts were keeping up with the run rate and May was looking good. Her time came to an end though, when she was clean bowled by Marcia A and we were cautiously optimistic of a win. Thriplow’s last pair then batted valiantly for another 8 overs, scoring slowly but doggedly refusing to give their wickets away until Abbie S bowled a beautiful wicket maiden, removing the last batter with Thriplow more than 60 runs adrift.
This wasn’t just a victory for Hutton though, this was a victory for both teams, their parents and managers who had worked so hard to get the fixture played against all the odds. Big thank you to everyone who helped make it possible - especially Melanie Willson for her tireless efforts and to our youngest player Maisy Kennon who stepped up last minute to play one of her first hard ball games and did us proud. Well done to both teams and good luck to us as we go into the next round.
