Match report Thrilling stuff at Colchester in the penultimate round of the Lady Taverners Cup. Starting strongly, the hosts took three quick wickets in the first few overs and when the 5th wicket fell in the 10th, it looked as though Hutton might struggle to reach 100. However, u13 player Gunatilaka joined Foyster at the crease and the runs started to accumulate. A match winning partnership ensued with both girls unbeaten at the end, Foyster on 55 and Gunatilaka on 26. This was a fantastic fightback and Hutton took to the field with confidence for the second innings. Again Colchester started strongly and were immediately well on top of the run rate until Foyster, having a superb game, broke the opening partnership by clean bowling Haywood for 15. Despite her opening partner falling in the next over, Colchester kept up the pace and had reached over half the required total by the 8th over. Hutton kept their heads up in the field, tightened up the bowling and slowly began to claw it back. Although it wasn’t until the 18th over that Colchester’s run rate dipped below the required, it was enough. Needing 10 to win off the final over, Hutton kept it very tight, and the hosts could only manage 5. This was a big win for the girls - and well deserved. Fantastic team unity and contributions all round. Next match - group final!
