A dramatic finish to Hutton’s Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two clash saw Hutton clinch their first win in five league games going back to August last year. With the scores level Hutton’s Jamie Vanner smashed the last ball of the game to the boundary to give Hutton the win by 3 wickets.

Hutton won the toss and put Leigh-on-Sea in to bat, a decision that was vindicated when Leigh were reduced to 61-3. Thereafter Leigh’s Waller (53) and King (64) put on 82 for the fourth wicket and Leigh looked likely to post an imposing total. But Hutton kept attacking and were rewarded for their diligence when Mumba trapped Waller in front of his stumps and dismissed him LBW. King was soon caught behind off spinner Southgate and Mumba picked up his fifth wicket when Hammond was bowled for 18. Leigh-on-Sea eventually finished their 50 overs on 226-8.

Hutton’s reply got off to a tricky start when the third wicket fell with just 27 runs on the board. But Fenn (44) and Mumba (71) rested the initiative away with a partnership of 73 for the fourth wicket. Solid contributions from Tredgett (28), Patterson (16) and McNally (39*) kept the target within reach.

The result lifts Hutton off the bottom of the division and Hutton’s next game is against sixth-placed Hainault & Clayhall who are just five points ahead of Hutton in what is proving to be a very tight division.
