Having lost the toss and been put into bat on a tricky pitch where the ball never quite came on throughout the game, Hutton beat Horndon-on-the-Hill by 53 runs in a match that turns their heads from looking over their shoulder to teams in a relegation battle to looking at teams above them and start challenging for promotion.

Hutton's innings was anchored by captain Stuart Feeley with 42 runs from 91 balls. Hutton lost wickets regularly to probing bowling from Horndon with extras being the 2nd highest scorer. For Horndon Madder (4-33) and Edwards (3-44) were the pick of the bowlers as Hutton eventually made 143 in 48.4 overs.

Hutton faced an uphill struggle to defend 143 but got off to a flying start from opening bowlers Mumba (2-21) and Patterson (1-24). Whilst Horndon-on-the-Hill rallied to 64-3 but Fenn then came on to bowl from the pavilion end and removed Horndon's captain Jeff West and with Jon Hammond (2-20) wrapped up the rest of the innings with 7 wickets falling for just 26 runs. Hammond nearly finished the match with a hat-trick, but Fenn took the last wicket to finish with figures of (8.1-2-20-5).

Hutton went to fourth in Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two and their next opponents are Old Southendians on Saturday.
