Mowll burrows through Oakfield Parkonians


A superb all-round performance with bat and ball saw Hutton to a vital win against 3rd-placed Oakfield Parkonians. Having won the toss and elected to bat in perfect August conditions, Hutton consitently put a string of partnerships together to keep Oakfield under pressure in the field.
Jon Mowll, promoted to number 3, anchored the innings with 56 from 76 balls. When he was the 5th batsman dismissed with the score on 120, the lower order of Alex Pearce (30 from 34 balls) and Tom Patterson (52 from just 31 balls) took Hutton to a competitive total of 233 for 9 from their 50 overs.

Resuming after tea Hutton's Carl Mumba struck early to remove Jibran Azam for 5. Thereafter they tied Oakfield's other opener down to such an extent that, though the score was 104 when he was dismissed, Faisal Bhatti had only scored 2 runs from the 20 balls faced in his innings. Hutton's Mowll and Mumba combined to take four wickets for just 12 runs to seize the initiative away from Oakfield Parkonians after their initial recovery. Mumba took 3-34 all told while Jon Mowll backed his half century with figures of 9-3-17-3 with the ball. Hutton bowled out Oakfield Parkonians for 172 and won by 61 runs. The result leaves Hutton 7th in division two of the Shepherd Neame Essex League. Hutton's next match is away to 2nd-placed Gidea Park & Romford.
