The 2nd XI won promotion to the Premier League with a resounding victory against against Westcliff-on-Sea this Saturday, winning the toss and batting first, the spirit of cricket was fully on display following an injury in the first 10 overs to the visitors opening batter whilst they were fielding. Rob Deverill ferried the injured player to hospital and the 2nd XI provided a substitute fielder for the remainder of Hutton's innings.
Dave Hammond scored 156 from 94 balls in a partnership of 226 in 28 overs with Adam Spooner. Once Hammond departed Adam Spooner scored his second consecutive hundred, his 131 came from 111 balls. Surya Balu then accelerated towards the end of the innings with 41 not out from 24 balls.
Hutton then cruised to victory on the back of a strong opening bowling partnership by Freddie Abbott (7-1-47-4) and Mitch Fenn (1-37). The spinners then got into the wickets with Barney Debenham holding down an end with figures of 8-1-38-2 supported by captain Henry Hunwick (1-42) and Jack Bolton (1-10). Hutton take 20 points from the match and, with 2 games of the league season remaining are guaranteed promotion and need just 10 points to win the league outright.
Hutton's next opponent are Orsett & Thurrock CC 2nd XI away on Saturday 30th August.
The next senior league matches at the Polo Fields are the Womens 1st XI's match vs Colchester & East Essex on Sunday, 24th August (1:00 PM start) and the 1st XI against Hadleigh & Thundersley on Saturday 30th August from 12:00.
