Match report Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the ladies got off to the worst possible start losing our opening bat in the second over. However, new signing Bethany Chambers, in her first game for Hutton and since badly breaking her wrist, was on top form. Despite regularly losing partners at the other end, she scored a massive 125 out of our total of 200 with 3 6s and 16 4s. No one else came close, with our next highest being Amy O who looked good for her 15 but was sadly run out. With just the 9 batters, the ladies did very well almost getting to the end of their 40 overs but the last wicket fell in the 38th, leaving Annette not out for the second time in the weekend. On to the bowling then, where Beth and Grace M started our defence. With gaps in the field it wasn’t going to be easy and it’s testament to the bowing ability of our team that the required run rate increased as the overs passed. However, as their openers warmed up and got into the game they started to target the gaps. 3 quick wickets from Georgie put a stop to that and it was game on. With the experienced Marilyn Smith and Debbie Curtis at the crease, the ladies battled hard, kept the run rate down but couldn’t seem to get the wickets and with 7 overs to go and both batters well set with a 100+ partnership, it started to look a bit more doable for them. They needed a bit more than 8 an over when two consecutive wicket maidens were bowled by the two Manek sisters, removing the set batters and ensuring the required run rate remained high. The final overs were bowled by Amy O and Suzanne with the former taking the last wicket and the latter conceding no runs. All the players were immense - they battled hard and gave it everything in the field - another game with a clean sheet for the keeper! They should be rightly proud of themselves. Special thank you and mention to our youngest player Maddy A without whom we could not have played the game.
