Match report An early start on Saturday saw our team travel to Gt Shelford for round 2 of the Lady Taverners T20 Cup Competition. Having been advised by the Gt Shelford manager that his team was mostly U11s and very weak, we were quietly hopeful of getting into the next round but with three u13 county players, 2 county u11s and a very small boundary, the hosts posted a competitive score of 156 from their 20 overs. In reply, Maddy A scored a whopping 12 runs from the first over of our batting innings and our optimism of a win returned. Sadly, a compete mix up in the next over saw Maddy a few inches short of her ground and she was soon back on the sidelines nursing a previously sustained bruised hand. The girls battled valiantly though and with Sophie W on top form, scoring her first ever 50 and her team mates supporting her well (Abi B 18), a win still seemed possible. Sadly, Sophie fell with a few overs to go and our new-to-hardball year 6s and 7s found the run rate a bit too tough to manage.
With just 4 balls to go our last wicket fell and we found ourselves 30 odd runs short.
Congratulations to the girls for their cheerfulness and happy disposition, for their efforts and bravery facing some quick bowling and especially to our two senior girls, Maddy and Sophie who were determined to make sure everyone got a piece of the game.
