Match report After weeks of miserable weather, we welcomed Wanstead Ladies on a gloriously hot day and after winning the toss, we unsurprisingly elected to bat. Hitting a boundary four off the first ball of the match, Erica signified her intentions and went on to play a fantastic innings, scoring no less than 25 fours and 6 sixes in her massive 174 from just 113 balls. An outstanding knock, surpassing her previous pb of 161* by 13 runs. This is actually the 6th highest score in the history of the club - well done Erica! With contributions from Beth, Amy and Sophie we finished our innings on 255 - a very decent score on a slow outfield and a boiling hot day. Coming out to bat, Wanstead also started well and were actually ahead of the run rate for the first few overs but debutant Aky bowled a wonderful fast opening spell and the visitors were quickly two down. Despite a gutsy knock from Nannette and a sparkling 33 from Wanstead's captain Saba, the batsmen never really threatened and the required run rate began to increase. Wickets fell at regular intervals and when Nannette was out to a superb low catch by Aky, the game was very nearly up. Although we couldn't take that final wicket to give us maximum bowling points, it was a superb win against a very decent Wanstead side and the ladies should be rightly proud. Despite the massive contribution with the bat from Erica and 4 wickets from Beth, this was still a proper team effort with contributions from every player. Our youngest fielders in particular continue to impress with their energy and commitment, never giving up and stopping certain boundaries with their speed and bravery. Well done Team Hutton!
