Match report Winning the toss we elected to bat first. Erica and Beth soon got into their respective strides with their partnership reaching 186 before Beth was cruelly run out at the non strikers end by a swift touch of the bowler's hand to the ball before it crashed into the stumps. Erica was the next to go but not before scoring yet another century taking her season's runs for the team to well over 500. Wickets fell in quick succession after that and we suffered a major batting collapse finishing all out on 241, just a few balls short of our 40 overs. 241 is a competitive score but we know Colchester and are well aware of their batting power, with Kiri in particular able to take games away from the opposition. Not so today with Grace Manek on top form, as she had first Natalie caught at slip and Kiri clean bowled without scoring. A collective sigh of relief went round our team! Rosie added to the wickets, bowling Colchester's number 4 also without scoring ... and then the rain came. We had bowled only 5 of the required 10 overs to make a game and there followed a long rain delay where we waited anxiously to see if we would be able to get out again to make a game of it. When we finally did get out, our visitors were set the nigh on impossible DLS target of 143 in just 15 overs, largely due to the three early wickets we had taken before the rain. They gave it a good go - smashing the ball and running everything. This of course offered us opportunities for both bowler and non bowler wickets and Colchester were eventually all out for just 48 in the 13th over. Kudos to them though for the entertaining knock and good sportsmanship in agreeing to finish the game, despite a still damp outfield and the likelihood of a loss.
